Ensemble

1966-67 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This day ensemble made of bright orange wool, with metal buttons, is composed of a dress and jacket. The dress is A-line, sleeveless and has a round neckline. The jacket is square, short, with a "Claudine" collar and elbow-length sleeves. It has a false pocket and is double breasted with 2 rows of metal buttons.
After studying engineering, André Courreges ( born 1923) worked with fashion designer Cristobal Balenciaga, with whom he developed a minimalist style. In 1965, Courreges presented a collection that was a total break with the past and would revolutionise fashion. His short, mathematically proportioned, A-line dresses in bold colours or pure white erased the body shape completely.
