Misia Sert (1877-1950) was once dubbed 'The Queen of Paris'. She appeared in three seperate cover designs by Toulouse-Lautrec, Édouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard for the celebrated magazine 'La Revue blanche'. Launched in 1889 by her cousins, the wealthy Natanson brothers (Alexander, Thaddeus and Louis-Alfred), she was married to Thaddeus in 1894. It was her first of three marriages in a bohemian cultural life which also saw her patronise the Ballet Russes as a friend of Diaghilev, and sustain a close friendship with Coco Chanel from 1917 until the end of their lives. The two women have been described as inseperable in their later years.
