Bibliographic reference | Osman was apparently the son of a slave woman of the Chief Black Eunuch. It is said that during a pilgrimage to Mecca, he was thought to be the Sultan's son, captured, and treated like a sovereign. When the truth was discovered, he was released, and finally became a monk, assuming the name of Father Othman. See Searight Archive and J.J.Spry, RN, Life on the Bosphorus, 1895, pp.100 105.* Hollstein lists a print entitled 'Osman, son of Ibrahim I, Sultan of the Turcs', but its width (58.7 cm.) is too great for specific identification with SP614.
