Object history
Probably a pair to A. Kauffmann's 'A Lady, Contemplating on her Lover's Picture' (SP.338).
This print appears to have been the source for an early 19th century gouache by an unknown Mughal painter, probably from Lucknow (see cat.no.93 in VAM, 'The Indian Heritage: Court Life and Arts under Mughal Rule', 1982, exh.cat. by R. Skelton).
