Nigel Coates (born 1949) Perspective view of the jewellery shop 'Silver', Bond Street, London British, 1986 Pastel and wax crayon over photomechanical print on tracing paper Nigel Coates is one of the leading British designers working in a highly individualistic and somewhat 'baroque' manner. Whilst his career in Britain consists mainly of retail design, it is in Japan that his architectural career has blossomed. Coates executes a drawing in this style for each project. Although not necessarily a part of the design process, they are occasionally used for client presentations. These drawings present a highly developed overview of each project, showing the salient points of a scheme reassembled and reinterpreted in a very sophisticated manner.
