C19th-style 'Degas' tutu designed by Lila de Nobili for Princess Aurora in Act I worn by Svetlana Beriosova. The coral velvet bodice is trimed with white strips decorated with black beads immitating ermine. There is a false crepe under-bouse with puffed sleeves with tiny 'pearl' beads around neck and cuffs. On the front panel of the bodice there are gold sequins with patches of brade. The net skirt has 9 layers each getting progressively shorter.
The costume label notes that the costume made for Beriosova was also worn by Linda Moran and Farnsworth

Object history
Costume for Princess Aurora in Act I worn by Svetlana Beriosova in Marius Petipa's ballet 'The Sleeping Beauty', The Royal Ballet, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 17th December 1968. The music for the ballet was composed by Tchaikovsky. This new production, staged by Peter Wright, was a deliberate attempt to give the ballet a different 'look' from the famous former production designed by Oliver Messel. New and additional choreography was provided by Frederick Ashton, and the 'Medieval' style sets and costumes were designed by Henry Bardon, Lila de Nobili and Rostislav Doboujinsky. The production was not considered a success, and was replaced by a new production by Kenneth MacMillan in 1973.
