Twin-Tube Vase

1736-95 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Twin-tube vase carved with an eagle standing atop a bear is usually referred to as 'hero vase', because the Chinese words 'eagle' and 'bear' together pronounce the same as 'hero'. The craftsman who made this vase, however, deviated from tradition and the two animals do not resemble an eagle nor a bear.
