Physical description

'1925 Wembley'. Colour lithograph poster issued to promote the second season of the British Empire Exhibition held at Wembley, London, 1924-25. The design features a number of people from amongst the crowds by buildings of the exhibition. It is evening time and there are fireworks exploding in the sky and at either side of the image is a spherical lamp (on a tilted axis, suggestive of planet earth) on a decorative column. The main figure of the design is a woman with short, dark hair and a brightly patterened scarf about her shoulders. Within the image, the headwear from a variety of social strata (top-hats, trilbys and flatcaps) are visible, suggesting the wide audience intended for the exhibition.
