Object history note

‘This photograph is one of 21 taken by Nick Hedges during his time as a full-time employee of Shelter, the National Campaign for the Homeless, (A charity organisation working to re-house poor families and slum-dwellers). Nick Hedges went to Shelter straight from college in 1968, and remained staff photographer until late 1972. These prints were made specially for a travelling exhibition for this Department, from negatives taken from 1969 to 71. All are black and white, on smooth gloss paper, mounted on card. Most of the images in this group have been used for posters, campaign graphics etc.’ [Taken from Departmental Circulation Register 1973]
