This poster dates to the period of German occupation in the Netherlands during World War II. Following the German forces' bombing of Rotterdam in May 1940, the Dutch army surrendered to German control. Propaganda such as this was displayed as a public notice, printed in Dutch and German so that messages from the Reich would be read and understood by the local population as well as the occupiers.
