Tartan velvet with seven colours of cut silk pile, brocaded with gold, with a yellow selvedge at the left edge. Two pieces sewn together. The 'tartan' pattern formed by stripes of uneven width of seven colours of cut silk pile warps, ordered as follows: 18 pale blue, 3 navy, 3 white, 3 green, 2 pink, 2 yellow, 3 navy, 2 pink, 1 dark green, 2 pink, 3 navy, 2 yellow, 2 pink, 3 green, 3 white, 2 navy, 48 crimson, 3 navy, 3 white, 3 green, 2 pink, 2 yellow, 3 navy, 2 pink, 3 navy, 2 pink, 2 yellow, 2 green. These pile warps are voided at intevals to allow the insertion of bands of brocading wefts. The metallic wefts are made of gilded membrane wound in S around a silk or linen core.
