Chinese porcelain could be imitated quite successfully by opaque white glass, which has a similarly translucent effect. During the 18th century, small Central European workshops, especially in Bohemia (now in the Czech Republic), specialised in decorating glass and porcelain blanks alike with soft enamel colours to imitate porcelain from China and from the large European factories. This vase shows a romantic fantasy landscape in the popular Rococo style of the time.
