During the Second World War, civilians were mobilised to participate in the war effort as never before. Where previously war had been the preserve of men, the scale of this conflict created important roles for women as well. In this poster, McKnight Kauffer uses the bold, geometric style for which he became famous in order to recruit volunteers to help the women's ambulance service.
