Sketchbook containing pencil drawings (with some notes as to colour) of views, figures, animals and plant forms. The sketch on p. 41 may have been used for the illustration to 'Sketches at Buxton by a Rheumatic Man', published in 'The Graphic', XV, p. 305, 1877. Inside the front and back covers and on a few pages at either end are miscellaneous notes and addresses.
The volume consists of 88 pages in total, many of which are unused. The paper is cream coloured wove paper, bound in green boards with a black cloth back, and a printed label reading the name of the sketchbook's manufacturer in London. The artist's name and address are inscribed in the front cover.
