Place of origin |
This statuette representing the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception was probably made in Spain in about 1650-1700. Although the first church in Spain dedicated to the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception dates from 1484, the iconographical type became widespread in Spanish painting and sculpture during the 17th century. The image of this statuette is also iconographically similar to the figures of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception by Gregorio Fernández (ca. 1576-1636). This implies that this statuette dates from the second half of the 17th century.
