This relief, made in the 18th century probably in Germany or Netherlands, is carved in mother of pearl with the Crossing of the Red Sea. This was probably the lid of a box.

Relief, Carved mother of pearl relief depicting the Crossing of the Red Sea, German or Netherlandish, early 18th century
Physical description
Convex octagonal mother of pearl relief probably the lid of a box. The left hand lower corner is broken away. Carved in high relief is a depiction of the Crossing of the Red Sea. In the foreground Moses, with his rod, and Aaron, behind them the ark is borne by priests, on the right a group of mothers and children. In the background on the left Pharoah's host is overwhelmed, on the right is seen the Israelite army in the hills.
