Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Graphic designer Clifford Richards designed some of the most memorable packaging and printed ephemera of the 1960s. Vibrant, witty and fun, they are an exuberant expression of the Pop Art decade.

Richards designed this gift box in time for Christmas 1966 as part of a range of packaging, lighting, children's books and cut-out fashions produced by All Things Bright and Beautiful. He decided on this range of gift boxes after seeing how few packaging ideas were available in the shops. Designs included 'Passion Flower', which was a design of hearts, 'Love Box', hearts and the word 'love' and 'Rule Britannia', based on the Union Jack but using green, yellow and lilac instead of red, white and blue.
