This portrait miniature depicts Walter MccGwire, who served as a Judge Magistrate of Mymensingh, a district of Bangladesh in the first half of the 19th century. The miniature was painted by leading Dublin-based miniaturist John Comerford (c.1770-1832) in 1818 and is typical of the artist's later style in its strong colouring and calligraphic modelling of the face.

Short half-length, three quarter-face portrait of a rubicund man turning slightly to the spectator's right, and looking towards the spectator. He has grey hair and wears a dark purplish coat and a white collar and waistcoat. Brown background. In ormolu mount, in oval red morocco case.
