This portrait miniature depicts Walter MccGwire, who served as a Judge Magistrate of Mymensingh, a district of Bangladesh in the first half of the 19th century. The miniature was painted by leading Dublin-based miniaturist John Comerford (c.1770-1832) in 1818 and is typical of the artist's later style in its strong colouring and calligraphic modelling of the face.
