This pastel was Lot 47 at Messrs. Christie’s sale on 14 March 1952. It was lent to the exhibition, ‘European Masters of the 18th Century’, held at the Royal Academy, 1954-5 (No.375). A version in oils, based on the pastel and probably also by Francis Cotes, is in a private collection.
