This plaquette depicting a Bacchanalian scene was probably made by Jakob Cornelisz Cobaert (active 1568-1615) in Rome, in about 1590-1610. This was made after a design by Guglielmo della Porta 9active 1531-1577).

Physical description | Bronze plaquette depicting a Bacchanalian scene. The drunken Silenus mounted on an ass enters from the right supported and accompanied by followers and musicians; a satyr in the middle foreground tethers his ass to a tree. In the left foreground a bearded man raises the skirt of a protesting nymph. The middle and far distance are filled with undraped and partially draped nymphs pursued by Silenus' followers. |
