Carved mother of pearl relief depicting the Annunciation, South Germany, late 15th century
Physical description
Carved mother of pearl relief depicting the Annunciation. The Virgin kneels on the right by her desk on which there is an open book. On the left an angel kneels holding a scroll and giving the blessing. Above appear another smaller angel in the clouds and also the dove. The relief is convex, cracked and has its edges chipped. In a sliver mount with a ring and loop.
