Historical context | The Duchess of Marlborough in 1764 was Lady Caroline Russell, daughter of the Duke of Bedford, she married George Spencer, 4th Duke of Marlborough in 1762, and died in 1811. A comparison of this miniature with two portraits of Lady Caroline Russell by Reynolds suggests that this is a plausible identification, but does not provide conclusive evidence for it. |
