Neuwelt is the German name for Novy Svet, a glass-making centre. Richly coloured wares in two or more layers of glass, wheel-cut through upper layers, gilded and as in this case, silvered, were made at many glassworks across Bohemia. This goblet is decorated with panels, loosely 'arabesque' in shape. The goblet was acquired by the Museum of Practical Geology and transferred to the Victoria & Albert Museum in 1901
