The following is the full text of the entry:

Inscribed on the mount in an 18th century hand 'Annibale'; inscribed on the back in another 18th century hand 'In.66. V.20.L'; also on the back J. Barnard's initials and the number '620' in his hand; also in a different hand 'Cholmondley'

PROVENANCE J. Richardson Sr (Lugt 2184); (?) third Earl of Cholmondley; John Barnard (Lugt 1419 and 1420); (?) Uvedale Price; Sir Joshua Reynolds (Lugt 2364); Dyce Bequest 1869

LITERATURE Dyca Catalogue no. 326 (as anonymous, ascribed to Annibale Caracci)

The drawing probably has the same history as no. 1040 below since entering John Barnard’s collection, and it may be assumed therefore that Uvedale Price owned it before Reynolds.
