Physical description
Gouache depicting a garden scene on the Braganza shore in Rio, with two women and a child of European descent, fully covered in shawls, hats and long dresses, purchasing bananas, pineapples and melons from a black woman in a white skirt who is bending down towards the fruit. Other figures are seen carrying produce further down a path which is lined with large tropical plants and trees. The hilly waterfront landscape of Rio is seen in the distance beyond. Signed and dated by the artist.
