Bibliographic reference | This painting is entitled 'A Scotch Loch' in the PDP catalogue and Sheepshanks Accessions register. However, the word 'Scotch' has been changed to the word Scottish in the PDP catalogue as the use of the term 'Scotch' is widely considered pejorative when applied to people and places, reflecting old Anglo-Scottish antagonisms. However, the term is still widely used in North America and is acceptable when used to describe specific products, mainly food and drink, ie. Scotch whiskey, Scotch eggs etc. |
