This medal commemorates the occasion when the City of Paris presented a cradle to Emperor Napoleon III and the Empress Eugénie following the birth of their only son, the Prince Imperial. The reverse of the medal shows the child sleeping in the cradle on pillows supported by a Napoleonic eagle.
It is made by J. Cavalier and Vauthier Galle in 1856.
