Object history
Charles Richer de Rodes (Roddes) de la Morlière went to Constantinople as First Secretary in 1724, returning to France in 1727. He was portrayed twice in oriental costume. See A. Boppe, 'La Mode des Portraits Turcs au XVIIIe siècle', Revue de l'art ancien et moderne, pp.211 16.
