Object history
It is one of a group of portraits of the family of Sir William Chambers, R.A., bequeathed to the National Portrait Gallery by Miss E. F. E. Pebardy. William Innes (of Jamaica) was the husband of Selina, daughter of Sir William Chamber, R.A. For a companion portrait of the sitter's wife (also by Engleheart), and a note on dating see P.15-1958.
