During the seventeen and eighteenth centuries a very considerable number of ivory crucifix figures were carved in Europe but except in the case of the work of a few individual artists it is almost impossible to distinguish between the carvings produced in France, Germany or the Netherlands.
This crucifix figure is probably Netherlandish and made in ca. 1700.

Statuette, carved ivory, figure of the crucifixion, probably South Netherlands, ca. 1700
Physical description
Crucifix; the figure of ivory, the cross of ebonised wood. The cross has a base consisting of seven plain steps, and the three arms are each finished off with a strip of ivory. Christ is shown alive looking upwards to his right; his teeth are visible. The arms are separately carved and fixed to the body.
