However glamorous this type of propaganda might appear, it did not let women forget that this was their war, and they had a duty to perform. This poster equates the work undertaken in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) with those engaged in frontline battle, juxtaposing a young WAAC recruit with the service's symbol, Pallas Athene, goddess of victory, wisdom, feminine virtue and the arts of war.
