Black and white photograph depicting two women in Sardinia, seated separately on a staircase in a public building. One of them appears to be a flower seller. The other, closer to the photographer, is wearing a head-scarf and bending forward slightly. At the bottom of the stairs are two large archways with open wrought iron gates. Light floods into the dark hall through the arches and a sailor in white uniform and hat, is walking towards the further arch through the pool of light.
