In the 1980s Howorth’s cropped hair and androgynous style challenged stereotypes of beauty. Here she models a double-breasted suit and long coat with shoulder pads, which create a masculine outline. Howorth focuses on an unseen subject to the left, while her eye, greatly enlarged, also stares from behind.
