The Italian-born, London-based artist Sara Fanelli is a well-established illustrator. She has won and been nominated for several illustration awards, including the V&A Illustration Award. She creates prints, book illustrations and collages.
This etching is an example of Fanelli’s creative process; she developed an idea for her book Dear Diary from this piece. This etching shows her dog Bubu, a leaping girl and etched heart symbols. A poem written by her grandmother in her handwriting appears on the left hand side. This print not only shows the artist’s ideas in process, but is also a delightful image in its own right, bringing mind a school-girl’s notepad with personal doodles and drawings.
