Untitled photograph of foliage
Untitled photograph of a seated woman holding hazel twigs
1981

These photographs were made in 1981 using a process dating from the 1840s and ’50s. They were commissioned byThe Connoisseur magazine to test the expertise of collectors. When a woman pretending to have found them in her attic showed them to experts at auction houses and museums, including the V&A, they were identified as 1850s salted paper prints. They were donated to the V&A after the magazine published the article.
