This is an unstitched panel for making into pangkheb, the most utilitarian Bhutanese cloth pieces. Pangkheb serve as aprons, can be hung in doorways or used to decorate altars. At the time this piece was made pangkheb were also among the fabrics that served as taxes in kind in Bhutan, distributed by the state to monasteries and administrative centres (dzongs) for lining cushions, wrapping ritual objects or using as bed covers and towels.

| Physical description | Multi-purpose lap cloth (pangkheb) of coarse unbleached cotton cloth with woven and embroidered patterns in terra cotta and indigo blue cotton. The left side is a sari like robe. The simple geometrical pattern is formed by horizontal bands of diamonds, whole, doubled or halved between triple lines of darn stitch. At one side is a border of three stripes. |
