Wooden Mask from the Congo, from the portfolio ‘African Negro Art’
1935
In 1935, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, held its first exhibition of African art. The museum commissioned Evans to document the exhibition. Seventeen sets of Evans’ images were printed. The V&A bought one of these sets for $50.
