A silver mug of baluster form on a moulded spreading foot with a double scrolled handle. The handle is cast in two parts, the solder line which runs down the centre of the handle is visible.

Marks and inscriptions
  • Punched on underside of base: lion passant for sterling standard silver; leopard's head crowned, for London assay office; date letter 'l' for assay year 1746-47; maker's mark 'B•W' in a lobed-shaped shield for Benjamin West.
  • Initials 'R C' engraved on underside of base, and scraped out.
  • Scratch weight '12 4' engraved in the centre of the underside of the base, the '4' scratched out.
