Even in the 19th century, with competition from oil lamps, gas and electricity, candles and candlesticks remained essential items used throughout the home and moved from room to room as light was required

Physical description | Candlestick with detachable nozzle (one of a pair), silver in the form of a baluster stem rising from a deeply shaped hexagonal base, cast and chased. Decoration consisting of mouldings, flutings and gadrooning and corded edges; the deeply shaped hexagonal nozzle decorated with six shell ornaments. |
