Place of origin |
Filigree, of the kind used in this box, was developed in Iberia in the late 16th century and had spread to the rest of the continent by the end of the following century. During that period it was highly fashionable and was used for trinkets and ‘toys’ of all kinds.
This box probably dates from the late 17th or early 18th century. It is not known where it was made, although it carries a French import mark from the early 19th century.
