Dundrum House Grounds

Photograph
c.1858-1861 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Like other amateur photographers of her era who were often wealthy landowners, Lady Hawarden photographed workers on her estate. However, rather than fixing them in enacted poses, she photographed men carrying out everyday tasks, such as this sequence showing them chopping and sawing a broken tree in the landscaped gardens of the eighteenth-century Dundrum House, in Ireland.
