Historical context note

From departmental notes

'Clementina, Lady Hawarden (Untitled) Photographic Study (or) Study from Life (D.208) c.1857-c.1864 Dundrum House, grounds: Multeen River: arched bridge (Black Bridge) on right; trees; fence on left.Inscription (verso): No 6240 x 271 mm PH 457-1968:154 Literature: Microfilm: 3.19.146 Virginia Dodier, 'Haden, Photography and Salmon Fishing', Print Quarterly, Ill, 1986, p.49, fig.38.This photograph shows the same scene as Francis Seymour Haden's etching A River in Ireland (1864). The close relationship between some of Haden's early etchings and some photographs by Lady Hawarden is particularly intriguing, considering Haden's advocacy of working sur le motif, en plein air. See also Ph 457-1968:114 (D.198).'
