Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This dish cross stood on the table and supported hot dishes. It could be adjusted to fit plates and dishes of different sizes and was often, like this piece, fitted with a spirit lamp or burner to keep food warm at the table.

This example has engraved decoration. The silversmith created the design by using a sharp tool or graver to remove slivers of metal from the surface of the object.
