Francis Towne 1740?-1816 Rydal Water Signed and dated 1786 Towne's watercolours have a strong, distinctive outline and pristine colours. This is apparently a leaf from a sketchbook that he used during a tour of the Lake District. Its picturesque landscape was very popular with painters at this period.
