Brief description
Design for a Commode 'Le Clos' by André Dubreuil, 1986
Gallery label
Design for a Commode 'Le Clos' Designed by André Dubreuil Pen, ink and watercolour 1986 This design typifies Dubreuil's use of eighteenth and nineteenth century furniture for inspiration. Whilst his sources may have been traditional, the material in which he fabricates these designs is not: the commode was to be made in bronze, with poplar wood. Most of his work, in fact, is in metal, including the steel chair on the nearby plinth. Although born in France, Dubreuil moved to England in 1969 to work as an interior designer. He subsequently owned an antiques shop, worked as a trompe de'oeil painter, and turned to furniture design in 1985. Given by the designer for the 1986 V & A exhibition Designs for Interiors E. 3270-1986
