Original illustration for the frontispiece of 'A Country Holiday' by Arthur Davenport
1933
'A Country Holiday' tells the story of a boy from London who goes to stay with his school friend in the West Country. The caption underneath the image in the book reads 'The silence that followed was broken by the sudden snapping of a twig'. The image of the two boys peering into the wood evokes the mystery of the forest and fear of the unknown.
