Engraved on the side with the arms of Thomas Whitby of Haywood Abbey, Staffordshire (d. 1711), and of his wife Mary; their joint initials, W over TM, appear on the base. The large caster is for sugar, and the smaller pair for pepper and dry mustard. The piercing on the cover of the mustard caster is partially covered to control the flow.
