Object history
The Bauhaus at Weimar had no pottery-making facilities on-site, and all ceramics were made at nearby Dornburg. Otto Lindig became the technical director there, and continued to run the Dornburg workshop after the Bauhaus had moved to Dessau.

An identical item is illustrated in the 1931 catalogue issued by Lindig's workshop, where it is described as a vase.

This example was said to have formerly been in the possession of painter and former Bauhaus student Johannes Driesch (1901-1930), and then his daughter. It was acquired by the museum form Galerie Ulrich Fiedler, Cologne.
