Lewis lived in Spain from 1832-1833. There he produced a series of drawings and brilliantly coloured watercolours of Spanish life. Lewis also produced a series of lithographs of the Alhambra, one of the best-preserved examples of Islamic architecture in Spain. A number of the preliminary drawings survive and this is one of them.
