Larry Smart (born 1945) Poster of Jimi Hendrix 1967 Colour screen print E.6-1968 The artist admired Hendrix as a musician and in this posters makes a reference to his track 'Fire' (1967) by framing Hendrix with flames. It also alludes to when Hendrix set his guitar on fire during a performance. This striking image of Hendrix was one of a series of large posters made by this artist : the others include Frank Zappa, Mick Jagger and John Lennon. The artist had originally made a painting of Hendrix and this led Michael Phillips, of the company ForPosters, to commission a limited number of silkscreen posters. Text by Julia Bigham
